In a recent article aobut our economic recovery, Brian O'Connell of Mainstreet.com quotes the Brookings Institute:
“If future job growth continues at a rate of roughly 208,000 jobs per month, the average monthly job creation for the best year for job creation in the 2000s, it would take 136 months (more than 11 years),” says Brookings. “In a more optimistic scenario, with 321,000 jobs created per month, the average monthly job creation for the best year in the 1990s, it would take over 57 months (almost 5 years).”
Another 5 to 11 years of the slow grind to recovery? Perhaps we need this time to evaluate our part in this whole debacle. If a republic democracy is representatives enforcing and enacting the will of the people - what does that say about us? In our headlong search for money, did we forget that life is unpredictable, uncertain, and largely unknown? We maxed our credit cards and mortgages - spending like drunken sailors on shore leave.
